AJAX DOWNS, SEPTEMBER 13, 2022 – SOUR CANDY and A SHADES OF COLD are among a competitive field of nine set to go postward on September 14 in the $25,000 QROOI Bonus Futurity for 2-year-olds at Ajax Downs. Post time for the first race on Wednesday is 12:55 p.m. and the 300-yard Bonus Futurity is race 8.

SOUR CANDY began his career by winning a Trial for the Ontario Bred Futurity on June 15 with an 87 speed index. Owned and bred by Richard Wincikaby of New Liskeard, ON and trained by Michelle Woodley, the chestnut gelding did not compete in the final for the Ontario Bred Futurity as Wincikaby and Woodley had several others who qualified. This will be Sour Candy’s second career start and leading jockey Tony Phillips will be on board.

Amelie Aubut’s A SHADES OF COLD comes into the Bonus Futurity off a strong finish in the Ontario Sires Futurity on Aug. 17 when third beaten less than a length. The son of Ontario stallion Cold Hard Dash, who won his career debut on July 6, is trained by Jason Pascoe and will be ridden by Ismael Mosquiera. Pascoe has entered five 2-year-olds in the Bonus Futurity.

A pair of youngsters from the Carol and Jaime Robertson stable will also take support. HAD TO BE IVY, a full sister to champion Had to Be Ivory, comes off her maiden win over stablemate ONE FABULOUS WAVE on Aug. 21, and both juveniles earned an 83 speed index.

*The Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario launches a contest at Ajax Downs on Sept. 14 offering fans a chance to win a free share in its Quarter Horse ownership syndicate. The prize, worth $2,500, gets the winner a share in two horses, all expenses paid, joining some 20 other new owners. The contest runs for the next four racing days with a final draw on Oct. 10.

Admission is always free at Ajax Downs where trackside picnic tables get you up close to the racing action. You can also watch and wager on the Ajax Downs races through www.hpibet.com and the live feed of the day is available on the Ajax Downs’ Facebook page.
