It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Long-Time QROOI member John Campitelli. John was one of the founding members of the QROOI back in the 1960’s, He raced Quarter Horses from his family farm on Kennedy Road in Scarborough, a property that is still owned by the family and which is the current home of Snow City Marine Cycle. John’s passion for horse racing was life long, having raced QH’s from the 60’s to the 80s and then moving on to Thoroughbreds while his wife Lena continued to be involved in Quarter Horse racing through to 2013.
John is remembered fondly by QROOI members for always offering a helping hand, including being part of the installation crew of the safety rail on the old ‘J’ track, as well as purchasing, delivering and setting up the old mutual building with Ralph Pearson. Said building currently remains on site behind the entranceway to the new facility. Every Christmas John would make the rounds to friends, farms and businesses to deliver his homemade Wine and Olive Oil. Johns infectious smile, jovial laugh and famous stories will be missed by all who had the chance to hear them.
