Ice Fishn Monday’s featured race worth $22,000.

AJAX DOWNS – SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 – On a sizzling hot afternoon at Ajax Downs, the filly Ice Fishn cooled her rivals with a victory in Monday’s featured race worth $22,000.

The grey Ontario-bred Quarter Horse battled hard to edge last year’s Champion Two-Year-Old Colt Home to Vegas to win by a neck.

Ice Fishn was foaled in Bethany, Ontario at Greg and Sue Watson’s Full Circle Racing and is now owned by Sue’s daughter Stephanie Keeble. Greg Watson trains and Cory Spataro of Innisfil rode the winner.

Ice Fishn has won close to $70,000 in her 15 races with four victories.

Both Greg Watson and Spataro had two winners on the afternoon, connecting also with Iconic Shift in a $16,000 allowance race earlier in the day.

Ice-Fishin wins Monday's race

“Heck of a day,” said Greg Watson as he embraced Keeble after Ice Fishn’s big victory.

In the Ajax Down’s jockey race, Ramiro Castillo had one victory on the day to bring his total to 33 wins. Tony Phillips and Cassandra Jeschke also had a win apiece on Monday and are chasing Castillo with 25 and 24 wins respectively.

There are five Monday racing cards left in the 2017 Ajax Downs season (complete with Farmer’s Market vendors each afternoon) and the final race cards all have Championship significance. One of the biggest days of racing is set for October 9 with two rich races, the Alex Picov Memorial and Picov Futurity. Post time is 12:55 each afternoon.
