Jess a Sweet Surprize Seeks Sweep of Sprint Series
Craig Spada’s fast little mare JESS A SWEET SUPRIZE renews rivalry with 2020 Sprint Series champ Carneros (#1) Sept. 8
AJAX DOWNS, SEPTEMBER 6, 2021 – Craig Spada’s pint-sized mare JESS A SWEET SUPRIZE goes for a sweep of the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario’s SPRINT SERIES on Wednesday, September 8 in the third and final leg. The 250-yard dash is worth $20,760 and is race nine on the card which has a first race post time of 1:30 p.m.
Jess a Sweet Suprize, the 2020 High Point Aged Mare at Ajax Downs, was second in the final point standings for last year’s Sprint Series behind rival Carneros but she is set to turn the tables on that tough gelding this year. The Iowa-bred by Sweet First Down is unbeaten in all three starts in 2021 including the 110-yard Sprints Series-1 and 220-yard Sprint Series 2. In the latter race she put up a whopping 108 speed index, the best of her career. Trained by Spada, who hails from Ridgeway, ON, Jess a Sweet Surprise will be ridden by her regular rider Cory Spataro.
CARNEROS, second to Jess a Sweet Surprize in his last two starts, seeks his first win of 2021. Owned by Milena Kwiecien of Burlington and trained by Jason Pascoe of Pontypool, Carenos will have a new rider on Wednesday in Ricardo Moreno.
Kwiecien and Pascoe have also entered the seven-year-old stallion MARYLAND MAGIC, a two-time winner this year, who will have Ismael Mosquiera up and the grey mare FAVORITE PEARL, also with two wins this year and recently fourth to Jess a Sweet Surpize and Carenos.
Chicksdigmymoneybags, Silken Siri and Night Fishn complete the field.
Also this Wednesday, fans in attendance have a chance to win cash prize packs and there is a colouring contest for the kids.
